The industrial, working-class East End of Houston is in the midst of a decades long transformation, and this project carries the area’s continuing transformation one giant step forward. Having operated as an ink factory since the 1930s, the building and overall site are in need of not just deferred maintenance, but also environmental remediation and energy upgrades. In addition to the distilling, brewing, and bottling production, public facing areas include management offices and an indoor/outdoor tasting room. To the south and west of the renovated structure will be an open children’s play space, biergarten, and performance stage, hosting weekend and afternoon events. The distillery is the first of two projects as part of the long-term master plan for its 16-acre site.
